Let's face it...some memories just have to be captured with the convenient, blurry camera phone. It sure does make me thankful for a fast shutter 90% of the time. But, whipping out the phone is so handy when you have a million things going on. Juggling paperwork, bags, chasing kids is just too much drama for the big camera.
Lots of promotions this month for Miller man. He's now on the elementary side at church...a new building with the big kids. I love that he's standing by the sunflower that says "GROW". Miller's growing alright...like a weed. He walks just a wee bit taller going to his classroom now.
We sent him off to meet his new teachers in his K class. Because he's such a big kid, he only attends class for one hour now. We pick him up to attend service with us. He's fascinated with the size of the sanctuary. The music, the message...everything is new.
He showed self control a 1/2 hour or so his first go around. Our active wiggly worm has a tendency to bounce up and down with energy if forced to sit for long periods of time. I need to add to my bag of tricks to keep him occupied. There are pros and cons to this situation{smile}.
Sparks promotion on Wednesday nights is another big deal. We love this program as it gives him sound biblical instruction. He's proud to sport his new red vest and Sparks bag. As you can see, he's big time this year.

As for Miller Tricks.
Pipe Cleaners are a good way to keep his hands busy. I use to keep Taite with me when he was 3... and Caleb 5 - I was nuts. Any how, allowing them to play with a pipe cleaner entertained them a while. From being able to spiral it on a pencil, to having me wrap it on their finger and them figuring out how to get it off.
Also theres a quiet modeling clay at walmart, sold in small packets, it doesnt stick to stuff, it doesnt smell. Its the perfect size for them to hold in their hand and easy to play with. Just if you buy it, take it out of the wrap that it comes in and put it in a ziplock, that way its quiet getting it out. The bags it comes in are CRUNCHY sounding :)
Another thing I let Taite have when he 1st started was 2 matchbox cars.
and then of course a coloring book (let him go pick it out) and crayons (put crayons in ziplock too - its not as loud)
Over time once he gets use to the sitting you wont have to bring as much. Most sundays now Taite only has a coloring book with crayons, thats it.
Caleb who has been at this a while now just brings his notebook and pencil. We are pushing him to listen more now that he is older and has more understanding... although even at 8 he has a lot go over his head :) - heck I still do! haha
I just encourage you, DONT GIVE HIM AN IPHONE! that sort of entertainment in church drives me crazy. Oh and rewards are good for starting out too ;-) - we had many stops at Wendys for frosties after a success sunday morn hehe.
and allowing Miller to participate in worship is huge too. Give him some money at worship to give at offering - also we do not allow the boys to open their "bags" until after Pastor Johnny reads the scripture. This way they can join in with everyone too- in standing to read at the beginning.
