I like to book Chef Mickeys on the first night of our stay. You don't need to redeem park tickets to get in, and it's a fun character meal with most of the popular Disney crew as hosts for the night. We loaded up on the boat for our inaugural cruise ride to the Contemporary Hotel. I wasn't sure how much time to leave in advance with a 7:45 reservation. The boat ended up being much faster than I anticipated. We ended up getting our family picture and seated at 7:20 p.m. This worked out perfectly since we were all hungry from swimming.
Character Meals feel like cruise ship dining to me. The characters follow a certain path around the dining room like clock work. You have to have your Sharpie and autograph book out ready to sign. And, whatever you do--don't take initiative to greet the character on your own at a different table. We witnessed a novice following Mickey around with his camera hoping to steal away more time:) Plan your bathroom trips with precision. Ask your server when it's a good time to use the restroom in order not to miss a character stop. Of course, they will come back to your table much later if the littles have a potty emergency. Disney seriously should consider publishing a rule book with character etiquette for first timers:) There's no way you can just know all of the dining rules unless you just happen upon a wonderful waiter:) These are just little tricks that I've picked up along the way!
Mickey was animated and got the little laughing with hand gestures and hugs. Nonverbal communication is what the character do best to make the kids feel loved on. We managed to visit the buffet in between character stops.
Miller prepped Eliza Kate about the napkin twirling dance at Chef Mickeys. Boy, did she ever get her napkin dancing in the air around and around.
Miller got into the twirling action too! The characters get everyone involved in the napkin twirl.
Pluto rests autograph books on his nose to sign! The kids found that endlessly entertaining. He then used his furry tongue to pretend slurping up Miller's ice cream. We all were laughing at him!
We left Chef Mickeys ready to hit the sack for some much needed rest. But, not before Eliza Kate viewed the Cinderella's castle from the Contemporary Bridge. She saw it all lit up under the night sky and proclaimed, "It's gorgeous" complete with dramatic hand motions.
