We have mixed feelings about being on the home stretch of summer. Ode to summer... it's been a wonderful one. It's all about taking the time to fully appreciate those last few 8:00 am sleeping- in kind of mornings on this last week.
Our swim club hosted a back to school ice cream social for the school aged kids the weekend before the first day. This kind of event was exactly what I was mourning missing out on last year while we were still on the house hunt. It was so unsettling sending Miller off to kindergarten without the coziness of a neighborhood community that we had established in our last hood. And here we are thankfully, a year later with a rising first grader enjoying the festivities of "back to school"-- feeling like we've put down some roots for this school year. In fact, this is the first year that Miller will attend the same school in his whole career. He's a little confused. Although, I will say that changes in his world have made him one confident little dude. He's not afraid of new faces or places--that extravert boy of mine.
The little sisters celebrated with their elementary aged brothers. It's not quite back to school for them. The social chair decorated the tables with primary colors & apples. She put some thought into making it a cute set up for the kids.
Miller's always up for any excuse to socialize & then he found out that we'd be swimming all afternoon--it was a slam dunk kind of party. Here Miller and Grayson {2 boys in the middle} are psyching themselves up for first grade. It's always a butterfly feeling not knowing who your teacher will be for the year. We've been cruising the school website looking at the blogs to introduce ourselves to the first grade team.
