summer's last day

Zoo Atlanta was our destination of choice on the very last day of summer.  It was Miller's last opportunity to ask his famous question on a weekday morning, "What fun adventure are we doing today , mom?" Our friends, Jack and Maggie met us at the front gate for a morning of sauntering through the animal exhibits in the sweltering August heat. The boys with maps in hand led our zoo expedition tour--Jack was the expert guide.

 

Feeding the birds with their seed sticks was a huge hit. Eliza Kate has her mouth open in full concentration mode. I love the big brothers in the background reaching high up on a branch to feed their chosen feathered friend.

We knew our morning didn' t allow a leisurely visit with every animal so we made our choices wisely. Although, I feel like we covered a lot of ground. My crew is still talking about the wild toddler panda jumping and rolling from branch to branch with his burlap blanket. We caught him at a playful time of day.

Things got a little crazy when the brothers started wheeling the strollers. Maggie was all about a new driver, but EK wasn't so sure! She's had experience with her brother-- the reckless driver before. Smart girl.

The petting zoo is always a stinky favorite. Eliza Kate just had to have the pink brush:)

We divided up the boys and girls into teams for the last stop on our zoo excursion. The boys boarded the Blue Flame Express while the little girls jumped on the bounce house.

The boys had their eyes on the prize while waiting in line. The caboose was their bench of choice. It was a different vantage point to follow along the tracks backwards.

We cooled off in the zoo's newest splash pad. This was a great idea on such a hot day at the zoo. 
Wrapping up the day wasn't as sad as we recently purchased the family zoo  membership. 365 days of opportunity for a visit in our near future. We feel like zoo friends already! Happy last day of summer Miller.
