down on the farm

Today's fun Friday led us on a tour down on the farm. This was our first little trip to Cagle's Dairy Farm in Canton. We practiced our Old McDonald song with a "moo moo here and a moo moo there" & "an oink oink here and a oink oink there" on our drive to prep the missy for all the barnyard animal sounds. There were lots of sights, sounds & smells down on the farm. We experienced it all today.

It's fun to share a day down on the farm with our friends. Ansley & Landon, Jack & Maggie joined us at the farm. Our first stop was the petting zoo. Unlike the crowded fair, we actually got to feed the baby calves with a front row view. There were goats, sheep, pigs and ducks. The ducks were the show stopper for Eliza Kate. She announced "du, du" with great anticipation. Miller had a great time feeding the animals their morning brunch.

Who knew a calf's tongue was so long?  Miller said it tickled.
I adore how Eliza Kate was comfortable watching Miller feed the animals. She enjoyed the animal feedings  from the back row watching every detail of the action. This distance was safe!
These two were a mess entertaining eachother. I love how they were laughing at Tom the Turkey in his coupe. Let's hope little Tom survives November down at the farm. Once the tour guide brought up fertilizer with cow poo poo, the floodgates of potty talk took full rein and nonstop giggling was heard between these two. See baby Landon hanging with the boys? Let's hope he had earplugs to protect his innocent ears from cow poo poo comments.

We made our way to the garden. I think this is where we got separated from our group. Between keeping track of the boys & loading and reloading the strollers, we lost our tour group. We followed the kids with red shirts. I guess we should have known more than one tour had kiddos with red shirts. Sometimes these excursions can get hectic. We didn't let a little separation anxiety from the group spoil the fun down on the farm.
Check out these buds. Totally impromptu hug in the garden. Bro-mance anyone? Their sweet moments far outweigh their occasional tussles and  preschool wrestling matches. They really do love eachother. Check Miller out with his pea pod in hand. We dined on fresh veggies off the vine in the garden.
This was a favorite spot of Miller man. He was pretending he was in charge of the work down on the farm.
We had a little free time in limbo waiting to rejoin our group.

While we were waiting to join our group, we hopped on the wagon and fed our starving kids. Who knew a farm tour would last a few hours. We laughed off our missing farm tour mates. Nothing like a picnic in the hay on a fine October day. The kids didn't know the difference, especially with food on the way. Our little hiccup actually worked out better for the looming afternoon nap schedule. Great thinking, right? And, the kiddos were recharged for the highlight of our farm trip.

All aboard the tractor, ya'll. We took off for our after lunch joy ride down on the farm. It was bumpy & windy... everything a hayride should be.

Nothing could have prepared us for our "udderly" close and personal meet and greet with all the cows. It was such a "moo-ving" experience for the kiddos.

Here they are making their approach to the tractor. The best part was listening to the commands that the farmer yelled to the Border Collie. The farm dog rounded up the cattle and steered them in our direction.
We really felt like we were "home on the range".
So Mr. Cow sniffed our delicious lunch boxes. A lot of snout prodding and tongue licking was going on trying to get into our bags. Miss Paula took it all in stride and gave the cow a friendly hello pet. It created quite the ruckus. Nothing like carrying your bag around with a few wet cow licks.

These two were having fun in the hay!
Ansley & Landon snuggled close after our rowdy run in with the cows. We were well on our way with happy memories of our day down at the farm.
