This summer, we've been enjoying "The Music Class" on Monday afternoons. It's a six week class that exposes toddlers to the basic concepts of music and strengthens their musical development. We joined Paula & Jack and Cristina & Sophia for the summer "Frog Collection" music series. Miller loves his teacher Miss Anna. She brings in a different instrument each week to play...this week she brought in her flute. The instant she started playing it, Miller was hypnotized by its sound and slowly backed up to sit in my lap like he was in a trance. Miss Anna's flute was acting like a snake charmer, mesmerizing the babies with its sound. The best part was when she let the babies touch and explore the flute.
We have to come with a lot of energy to class as we run, dance, jump and play kid sized instruments. The biggest challenge is to get Miller to sit while he is playing with the grooved rhythm sticks. He wants to take off with them and run like they are a toy and not an instrument. This class has given us new songs to jazz up our repertoire over here. This past week we listened to the Frog CD over and over again in the car. I needed to familiarize myself with all of the songs, so I could participate in class. Miller has fallen in love with the "Three Little Ducks" song and hand movements. He loves to say "kack kack" and opens and closes his hands to imitate the duck's bill....only when he's up to it of course! Our other favorite song is "Sing and Play". I try to sing it to Miller as we get dressed in the morning and substitute in each item that we put on. If anything, this class has helped me to see how songs can fit into our daily activities. Landon got a hold of the sheet music and plays the songs on the piano for Miller at night as I sing along(don't tell him that I shared this) It's soo cute to watch!
