Memorial Day signals the start of pool season in our new hood. We've had a brief introduction with swim team during the last week of school every afternoon, but the annual Memorial Day picnic was our first leisure swim as a family. I've learned that I need to clarify swimming lessons and "swim for fun" in the little missy's brain before we head to the pool so she knows what to expect. She was thrilled that we packed up the water toys on this celebratory jaunt.
The crazy kindergarten boy crew was in attendance minus a few familiar friends. There was no shortage of fun as they cannonballed their way into the very cold water. Miller lives for neighborhood socials like these. He can barely concentrate the entire day before events like these as he's just radiating excitement {driving us all crazy} !
He's getting really brave swimming down to the bottom of the deep end for dive sticks. I keep my eye on him, but feel really confident with his swimming skills. I am still in the water with EK--especially when she's not wearing her puddle jumper. Not quite the laying out, poolside mom with a book for at least another year. Trying to enjoy the mommy and me time as they're will come a day when she won't call out for my swimming companionship.
Bat mitten and daddy pitch baseball games with friends kept them all busy during the adult swim lifeguard break. The older kids organized four square and other games on the grounds to keep the younger ones busy. All of the traditional , so good for you, free play is how we like to roll in the summer. There's something about problem solving with eachother in this setting that organized sports doesn't teach. The alpha male usually rises to the occasion of group director and the littles are forced to go along with the rules--so important!
These two hang, hug & wrestle all over eachother. G is quickly becoming one of Miller's BFF's on the block.
