Mario's baaack! He located our change of address form and flew in carrying an envelope tucked into his felt arm with our new address on it:) He got lost last year and couldn't find us at grandmama's residence:( But, Mario's back with a bang and he's here with lots of surprises up his red sleeve. An elf breakfast was in order to formally kick off all of his December shenanigans.
Elf on the Shelf is all new to Eliza Kate since she was just a wee one when he visited us last.
The littles hopped down the back stairs to find an elf breakfast waiting for them on Saturday morning. Eliza Kate cheered, "oh my goodness!" Both kids were excited to see Mario perched high atop the tired plate.
Mario left a chalkboard note that we read over hot chocolate. Eliza Kate's favorite part of the breakfast was the marshmallow and whipped cream toppings. She's my sweets girl!
Landon broke out the traditional reading of our signed copy of Elf on the Shelf. Miller ran his fingers over the illustrator's personalized note to the kids & we read it to him again. Things got a little silly towards the end of our story.
Miller keeps reflecting that Mario is "just a doll". We let him work out the whole thing in his brain. I never confirm or deny anything. But, you can definitely see Miller's wheels are turning. One comment that he made that I just love is --"Mom, the real reason we celebrate Christmas is Jesus' birth--it's HIS day. But, all the gifts that we open are just party favors for his birthday."
I love this thought and can see how we can transition Santa and the Elf as characters at the birthday party:)!!
Kissses for Mario--The tradition continues!
Miller kept reinforcing in a dramatic fashion--"noo, Eliza Kate--you can't touch him, he'll lose his magic. It becomes a challenge to enforce this rule when Mario falls out of position. So, I reviewed that mommy's & daddy's can touch Mario but he's not for kids' hands. We're all excited to see just where he'll end up next.
