Knox-vegas

The oh -so -creative coined phrase that daddy calls home. We loved taking Miller on a spontaneous trip up to Knoxville this weekend. We packed up the car and left early Friday afternoon during Miller's nap time. He did great on the ride up...mommy entertained him with peek a boo under the blanket and we took along his new favorite catepillar toy that plays classical music.

On Saturday morning, Miller entertained us with a "throw food on mommy" breakfast. He constantly moves his arms and legs when I feed him. Miller caught the bowl with his hand and oatmeal went flying all over the floor, bumbo and mommy. I had to call daddy for an extra set of clean up hands.

We loved touring Omi and Grandpa's new home in Knoxville complete with an amazing backyard that Miller will love to play in one day. Aunt Laurel and Chad joined us Saturday night for an early Fokens Thankgiving dinner. Too bad we couldn't puree the turkey for Miller to enjoy. He sat on Aunt Laurel's lap the entire dinner opening his mouth and staring at her fork as she ate...We have a healthy eater on our hands!

Sitting Pretty

Or should I say sitting handsome? I've not been very bloggy this past week. Landon was out of town on business last week and it's soo much easier to use his computer for pictures and blogspot so I'm a little behind. We missed daddy so much while he was gone. I'll try to catch readers up in the next few days of what's been going on with our family.

Last week, Miller accomplished another important milestone. He's sitting up..... unsupported! He's been well on his way since mid October when he would sit up for 20-30 seconds and then flail back sending mommy into a tizzy to try to catch him:) We just kept practicing on carpet and with his boppy pillow for support. Placing toys in front of him was a great incentive too. All of a sudden his sitting time span increased and here we are...sitting handsome! Mommy just wants him to stop here & just sit and play. It will be a workout when he decides he just doesn't want to stay in one place all the time.

Picnic at the Patch

We enjoyed a picnic social with Sunday School friends at Berry Patch Farms today. We brought a lunch and hung out while the boys played football and frisbee in the field. After a bumpy hay ride into the patch, we managed to gather some of the kids together for a picture!
Miller enjoyed hanging with daddy in the Bjorn...he loves it now that he is facing out and can see the world!

Playing in the Park

Today was an action packed day! Miller and I enjoyed an early morning walk with our pals Lisbeth and Allie today. We strolled and enjoyed looking at all the Halloween decorations in our neighborhood. It's always nice to have things for babies to look at while you're strolling. It keeps them distracted enough so the mommies can talk!
After a few hours at Grandmama and Poppy's, Miller and I headed to East Cobb Park for "The Ultimate Play Date" concert on the lawn. We brought a blanket and spread out to listen to the music. Miller was thrilled when he saw his friends Meg and Jack. We managed to get all three babies to pose for a picture... now to get them looking all in one direction...that would take a snake charmer! It looks like Miller is sitting up but we actually have his little tush propped up against a backpack for support. We're still practicing our balance! He just LOVES to flail his body and arms back and then sit back up again. It makes me nervous. For now, we're still practicing our sitting up technique and form:) So far, we mastered our posture for 10-15 seconds and then it's crash time.

Meg entertained the boys with all her cool new tricks including roaring like a lion, signaling the number one with her finger in response to Heather asking her how old she is, and running around with her bouncy ball. Jack and Miller hugged eachother and then Miller leaned over on Jack like a tumbling domino and they both crashed. It's hard to separate those two.


What a fun afternoon with friends in the park! We didn't want to leave, but it was time to feed an exhausted baby and mommy after such a fun play date.

Babbling Babe

Miller's squeals and shrieks are sounding more like consonant- vowels lately. His oohs and aaahs are beginning to change into ah-goos and ga- ga -ga. I read somewhere that he is practicing mouth movements that he'll need for real words one day and building brain cells that will make the leap from thinking to talking. He is experimenting with sounds like crazy & just loves to hear himself "talk". Daddy swears he hears a da-da every once in a while but we both know he doesn't attach any meaning to it. We're listening intently to his conversations with us and just love to guess what he's trying to tell us. We can't wait for a real chat one day...until then we'll enjoy our babbling babe.

Wedding Weekend

Landon and I traveled to Macon, Ga this weekend to celebrate in the wedding of Brittany and Cooper. It was a wonderful reunion of college friends & sorority sisters. The wedding was absolutely beautiful in colors of chocolate brown and bouquets of peach toned flowers. The reception took place at the bride's home under a massive tent complete with chandeliers. There were beautiful arrangements of flowers everywhere..even a floating centerpiece in the pool! We danced and laughed the night away. The bride and groom left in a 57 convertible chevy with torched fireworks lining the street. As they pulled away there was a fireworks show lighting the sky..amazing.


This morning we all went out to breakfast & reminisced about the wedding and times gone by. That's what I love about old friends you just pick up right where you left off!


We were sooo excited to return to our sweet baby and hug & kiss him. Miller had a great time with Grandmama and Poppy.

Little Pumpkin in the Big Boy Swing

Miller and I enjoyed a late afternoon walk in the neighborhood today. The weather was a little cool so I just HAD to cover his head with the pumpkin hat. When we reached the end of our path, I decided to venture over to the playscape. The swing was just calling our name! Miller enjoyed a little swing time while mommy captured a few pics. He's just about old enough for the swing, so we'll enjoy it for now until the weather is too cold to play outside.

Miller is not smiling a lot lately because his gums are really sore I'm sure. He's just not his usual smiley baby self. I've just been giving lots of TLC and mommy hugs so he can get through this stage. As soon as he'll let us we'll include pictures of his budding teeth!
